HOW DOES IT WORK ?

Ready to start ? Congrats, Welcome, Bienvenue, Ongi Etorri, Bienvenido !

First, every class is a Bikram Yoga Beginner Class. There is no need for you to feel anxious or out of place. You don’t need to have done yoga or a lot of sports before.

So get relaxed, as we say in Basque Country « Lasaï !» (« cool » in Basque language). There are beginners in pretty much each class, you have to start one day !

WHAT DO I HAVE TO BRING ?

In your bag , please bring :

  • proof of ID
  • Light outfit, it’s gonna be warm, very hot ! Prefer short sleeves.
  • 2 large towels, one for your mat, second one for shower
  • 1 water bottle (at least 1L)
BEFORE CLASS :
  • Classes start on time, so be on time ! Late comers won’t be admitted.
  • Arrive with enough time (at least 5 to 10 min), 20 min for your first time.
  • All classes last 90 min
  • Be sure you are well hydrated and fed (we advise no to eat the 2 hours before class)
  • If you have any injury, if you are pregnant, or anything else about your health, please make sure you tell your teacher before class
  • Please avoid strong perfumes, and if you need do not hesitate to take a shower before class
  • Please go to the toilets before not during class

 

I FORGOT MY TOWEL…

No worries, if you miss anything, you will find everything you need at the studio, you can rent or buy mats, towels, outfits, drinks.

So you’re ready ! Smile and be thanksful for beeing there , and relax this is just Yoga ! It’s gonna be hot, but only tropical heat ! Most of times, you will need 4-5 classes to get used to the heat. Then, you will like it, love it, and even miss it when it won’t be enough warm !

– BEFORE CLASS :

ARRIVING ISN’T IMPORTANT, IT’S THE JOURNEY THAT COUNTS.

  • Even if you wanna go out, stay ! Slow down, have a break, grab a sit, lie down, keep your eyes open and breathe !
  • Remain focused and connected mentally, because although you are not doing the postures, you’re still here physically and mentally. You are still doing yoga !

WHAT IS YOGA BIKRAM ?

Bikram’s Beginning Yoga Class is a 26 postures serie designed to scientifically warm and stretch muscles, ligaments and tendons, in the order in which they should be stretched. Each class lasts 90 minutes.

WHY DO IT IN HEATED ROOM ?

The heat protects the muscles by allowing for a deeper stretch; detoxifies the body by opening the skin’s pores to let out the toxins in sweat; thins the blood to clear the circulatory system; increases the heart rate for a better cardiovascular workout.

WHAT IF I CANNOT STAND THE HEAT ?

Heat might be surprising on your first class, and even difficult to bear in the middle of the class… Do not worry, this is normal ! Do not hesitate to sit down, peacefully, and then come back to the postures once you feel better. Very quickly, the only moment you will notice the heat is when it is not hot enough in the room

Never forget that heat is your ally in your practice !

I’VE NEVER TRIED YOGA BEFORE, WILL I BE ABLE TO DO IT?

Bikram’s Beginning Yoga class is just that – a place to begin your Yoga practice. Every class follows the same format whether it’s your first class or whether you have been practicing for years. How quickly you progress will depend on the time and effort you give to Yoga. It will have little to do with how “perfectly” you can do the poses.

AT WHAT FREQUENCY SHOULD I PRACTICE TO GET ALL BENEFITS ?

Ideally 3 times a week, in order not to leave more than 2 or 3 days between each class ; This is the best way to build solid foundations for your body. When you start the practice, especially if you are not fit, it is already excellent to practice twice a week.

If you are unable to practice on a regular basis, you may practice Bikram Yoga intensively (once a day) for shorter periods ; The Ultimate Challenge is the 30-Day Challenge : 30 Bikram Yoga classes in 30 Days : this will not only help you to develop a strong practice but also enable you to benefit from a -15% discount on your next class pack or subscriptions…

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST ?

If it’s your first time and you are registering as a new member we will give you a 15 days trial for only 35€. This is the best way to discover Bikram Yoga practice. We recommend you to come at least 3 to 4 times within your first 15 days, in order for you to begin to feel the benefits of the practice.

After you first trial, we offer Class Packs and Unlimited subscriptions, in order to meet all your different needs.

DO I NEED TO BOOK IN ADVANCE ?

No. You can come to any class, please arrive at least 10 mn in advance.

If you are a new student please arrive at least 20 minutes before class so that you can register and don’t forget your ID if you would like the introductory 10 days trial.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING ?

Your yoga clothes, two towels, a mat and a bottle of water.
Mats and towels are available from the studio for rent; We also sell yoga clothes for men and women as well as drinks.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR ?

Women wear sports tops and bottoms. Men wear shorts. Light fabrics such as Lycra are ideal – cotton is bulky and restricts movement when wet. Remember that whatever you wear it will need to preserve your modesty.

Yoga clothes are on sale at the studio if needs be.

CAN I EAT OR DRINK BEFORE CLASS ?

Drink plenty of water. Doctors estimate you need at least 2 litres per day for normal body maintenance. On the days you practice Bikram Yoga you should try to drink twice that. The more hydrated you are the easier it will be for you to sweat.

As with all exercise it is not recommended on a full stomach so try to leave 2 to 3 hours between eating and class. If you come in the afternoon, we recommend you to avoid the lunch time glass of “Bordeaux”

WILL I DO A REAL WORKOUT ? CAN IT HELP ME LOSE WEIGHT ?

Yes absolutely. Whatever your fitness level you will find Bikram Yoga challenging. The postures combine strength, flexibility and balance to give you a total body workout. As with other forms of cardiovascular exercise, regular practice (at least twice a week every week) will aid weight loss.

I’M NOT CONFORTABLE WITH MY BODY, I AM ASHAMED OF SHOWING MYSELF IN FRONT OF OTHERS, IS THIS PRACTICE FOR ME ?

There are no cliques in Bikram Yoga. People don’t come to hang out and show off their sexy bodies. Don’t worry, all shapes and sizes come to Bikram Yoga, including yours.

WHAT IF I HAVE A SPECIAL MEDICAL CONDITION ?

If you have serious Health Issues, like a Cardo-Vascular disease, please consult your doctor first and inform your teacher before class.
If you are injured or pregnant, please inform your teacher before class when registering.

IS IT IMPORTANT TO LEARN FROM A BIKRAM CERTIFIED INSTRUCTOR ?

Yes, all Yoga Bikram Biarritz instructors have been trained by Bikram Choudhury himself. The training is intensive and extremely demanding, ensuring that Bikram certified instructors provide a safe and enjoyable class.

« After 28 years of surf, I have put my body through massive periods of stress with no real recovery program and my body decided enough was enough? Physically surfing is harsh on the body – ask any surfer or doctor.
I was sick my body was telling me so. I became aware of increasing pains and a steady lack of flexibility. As the years went on, I struggled with my surfing and the pain of multiple injuries became chronic and very difficult to deal with on a daily basis.

More than two decades ago, I was involved in a nearly fatal car accident in South Africa. Hit side by a a car traveling over 60km per hour, I was physically smashed from the impact breaking the left femur, pelvis bone, ruptured bladder along with internal damages. For 20 years I visited doctors, though I learned from them, I was not healed. In 2015, I had to get another surgery in emergency because of very bad chronic pains coming from my abdominal area. Again a very long recovery.

Life is a challenge and it was time to challenge myself. So I made some changes and I started doing Bikram yoga. The first class was torture but “no pain, no gain”

I learnt that transformation takes time… and time is patience. A daily practice with no excuse, only to be courageous and focused on my ultimate goal which is to feel good and stay healthy. I was determined to give it a go.
